Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Grand Opening of a new ATCOM client, the Sullenberger Aviation Museum here in Charlotte. At the Museum Opening, famed Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger spoke about his aviation experiences and insights. One of the standout moments was when a young attendee asked Captain Sullenberger how he maintainted his confidence during the emergency landing of Flight 1549 dubbed “The Miracle on the Hudson”. Capt. Sullenberger answered and emphasized his lifelong commitment to learning something new each and every day. This practice, he noted, prepared him for his response to the unexpected events that occurred when Flight 1549 took a direct bird strike shortly after takeoff. The bird strike resulted in a loss of power to both engines mere minutes after departing the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport and the subsequent ditching of the plane into the Hudson River. As we know, the actions taken by Captain Sullenberger, his Co-Pilot Jeffrey Skiles and the Crew of the plane resulted in an outcome of no fatalities.
Captain Sullenberger’s philosophy of continuous improvement and readiness isn’t just vital in aviation; it’s crucial in managing information technology (IT) in today’s fast-paced, unpredictable business environment. Captain Sullenberger’s approach to personal and professional growth – constantly learning and adapting – is a powerful model for any field, particularly IT. In IT, the landscape is continually evolving, with new technologies emerging and cyber threats growing more sophisticated by the day. Staying ahead requires an ongoing commitment to learning and adaptation. Outsourcing IT functions is like having a co-pilot with specialized knowledge and experience continually trained to handle the latest challenges. An external IT team brings a level of expertise and a perspective that is hard to maintain in-house without significant investment in continuous training and development.
These teams are on the frontline of technological advancements and cybersecurity, often equipped with insights and tools that may not be readily available to small internal teams. This continuous influx of new knowledge and resources ensures that your business is always prepared, no matter what IT challenges arise. Businesses with outsourced IT can scale more efficiently, manage compliance more effectively, and have quicker access to necessary technological innovations. This preparedness secures them from potential IT disasters and gives them a competitive edge in a market where delay can mean failure.
Just as Captain Sullenberger’s dedication to learning helped him navigate an unprecedented crisis, a commitment to IT readiness – achieved through outsourcing – can equip your business to handle both the expected and the unexpected with confidence and competence. Is your business ready to face new IT challenges with confidence?
